Regular prophylaxis is a guarantee of good health of your pet. It is very important that a specialist constantly examined the dog. A half-year-old husky puppy should be shown to the doctor at least once a month. At the age of 6 to 12 months, it is recommended to visit a veterinary every 3 months. When the dog is a year old, the number of visits to the doctor can be reduced to 1-2 times a year.
Blood-sucking parasites treatment
Ticks, mosquitoes and fleas carry various infections. They can cause babesiosis, Lyme disease, dirofilariasis.
The activity of ticks falls on the period of the first thawing (from April to may). In summer, they become relatively passive. By the end of summer, their activity increases again and continues until the first frosts.
To protect your Siberian husky from ticks, start the treatment in the spring. As a prevention, it should be repeated every month during the warm period.
As for fleas, they are a danger to the animal all year round, because they can live indoors. Many tools designed to fight ticks can be used against ticks. During the warm period, the treatment should be carried out once a month. In winter, this procedure will be enough to carry out every 2-3 months.
Additionally, you can use the following insect repellents:
- eyedrops;
- shampoos;
- sprays;
- dog collars.
The effectiveness of antiparasitic shampoos is quite doubtful. They are able to eliminate only parasites that are already on the dog, while not being able to provide protection from the attack of new ones. When using a collar, there is a risk of harm to the animal. This is due to the high concentration of substances whose action is aimed at fighting parasites.
The best option in terms of efficiency can be called eyedrops. They are applied to the withers of the dog once a month. Removal of fleas requires multiple treatment of the dog.
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the pet’s habitat is also infected with flea larvae and eggs. Thus, the animal can be affected by parasites again. Preventative treatment during the year will help to protect it from such consequences.
Dehelmintization
Helminthosis is a disease that occurs when parasitic worms enter the body of an animal or a person. The disease is transmitted by fleas or mosquitoes. You can also get infected through water and food.
Once in the animal’s body, helminths begin to parasitize and penetrate into various vital systems. In this case, some can suck blood, and others eat nutrients, the loss of which will cease the pet to grow and develop fully. The presence of parasites in the organism is evidenced by the following symptoms:
- poor appetite;
- lethargy;
- unstable chair;
- weight loss;
- dull hair;
- pallor of the mucous membranes;
- tight and enlarged belly.
Certain types of helminths are dangerous even for people. You should systematically carry out dehelminthization with special drugs in order to minimize the risks of infection.
