When you bring the Siberian husky to your home, don’t hurry to engage in its socialization. Give the dog a little time to get used to the new environment. At the same time, it is very important not to miss the moment when he will have a period of fear. In this case, familiarity with the world will be much more difficult.
It’s a good sign if during the walk the puppy shows interest in people or animals, without fear of runs up to him and welcome with a wagging tail. If he is wary of everything that is happening or barks all, then the owner needs to be patient. Don’t try to correct the behavior of the dog with leash. Just don’t show it and keep going. The dog will follow you, and after a while he will definitely become bolder and begin to contact others.
If puppy continues to feel fear to everything a new, then you should postpone on time his familiarity with people and animals. This process can be resumed after establishing close contact with the owner. But overloading the baby is also not worth it. A day would be enough of a fun new person or dog.
Basic skills training
The first thing you need is to teach the puppy to come to you and respond when called. Don’t forget to encourage him always for successful completion of the task. Use a slice of goodies or your favorite toy.
It is also very important to praise the puppy for every achievement. And even if he misbehaved, but still came to you, do not punish him. Otherwise, in subsequent situations, he will cease to approach you at all.
Representatives of this breed are rather temperamental, so you can quickly lose interest in obeying commands. In such cases, the owner will be challenged to inspire the dog to be in constant interaction with it.
To call husky, use commands like “come here”,” come”, “me”. If the dog pulls strongly on the leash, you should teach her move next to you. For this purpose, take some slices of goodies in your hand. Put one of them in the right hand and hold it so that the dog was near her. If you do everything right, the pet will walk next to your right foot. Be sure to say “Yes” and provide access to the treat. Then take the next piece.
The first lesson should also train the concentration of the puppy. There are several training options:
- Place a goodie in a fist and offer it to the dog. If after unsuccessful attempts to obtain it she looks with perplexity into your eyes, say “Yes” and give the goodie.
- Carry the puppy away with a toy, then hide it behind your back. Don’t hurry to give it to the baby, and wait until he looks into your eyes. When this happens, say “Yes” and continue playing with the pet.
- Put a short leash on the dog, get a toy or a treat, and then hide it and after you catch the dog’s eye on yourself, start walking with it.
- When the puppy begins to consistently look into your eyes, you can try to lengthen the duration of the view, delaying the moment of rewarding. Thanks to this exercise, the dog will learn to observe the owner and obey him.
