To make the husky happy with its unsurpassed beauty, it is very important to provide proper care for the dog. Special attention should be paid to his diet and choice of cosmetics.
Hair care
A groomer will help to put in order the appearance of the dog. In this case, it is desirable to teach the pet to hygienic procedures from a young age. Representatives of this breed don’t have an undercoat, so caring for them doesn’t require a lot of effort and time. The first time the puppy is desirable to comb before walking, eating or playing. This procedure is best done in a separate place, such as on the grooming table. Over time, the dog will get used to such manipulations, and it will be easier to tolerate combing.
You should wash Siberian husky at least once a month. Don’t neglect this recommendation especially if the dog lives in the metropolis. In urban conditions, the dog’s hair is quickly covered with dirt and harmful substances that are in the air.
During the molting period, the dog should be washed and combed more often. This will speed up the change of hair, increase blood flow and improve hair growth.
For washing, use products specially created for husky dogs. Human cosmetics are not suitable for them. This is determined by a radically different hair structure and the lack of sebaceous glands in dogs.
Shampoos for humans strongly over-dry the dog’s skin, and air conditioners are not able to fully fill the protective layer removed by the detergent composition. And the consequences are not immediately apparent, but gradually. In this case, the animal has dandruff and dull hair.
It’s better to wash your pet in the bath. If it is slippery, the bottom must be covered with a rubber Mat. Don’t leave the dog alone without supervision. It could end very badly if he decides to jump out.
The water temperature should be within 38°C. Don’t wash the dog under cold running water. First, the wool will remain dirty, and secondly, there is a risk that the animal will simply get sick.
The procedure is carried out in the following sequence:
- dilute the shampoo in a separate container;
- wet the dog;
- cover her ears and eyes;
- use a sponge to apply shampoo;
- spread the cleanser all over your body with massage movements;
- rinse thoroughly.
If the dog has a tendency to allergies, it is safer to use special shampoos for washing, which are sold in veterinary pharmacies and clinics.
To remove the undercoat, use a slicker. These are brushes with steel teeth. For laying wool suitable polishers and combs with natural bristles. During combing, it is necessary to examine the dog’s skin for the absence of wounds, rashes and cuts. If they are detected, you should urgently visit a veterinary clinic.
Care for claws and paws
Long unkempt claws can cause the dog discomfort. To alleviate the condition of the animal, it is necessary to regularly perform their haircut. For this purpose developed a special nail clipper.
It is recommended to cut the dog’s claws every 2-3 weeks. The easiest way this procedure takes place after washing. Trim the claws a little, because there is a danger of touching the nerves and blood vessels. If husky feels pain, it will frighten him, and in the future he will be afraid of such manipulations.
After a walk, be sure to wash the dog’s paws, especially in winter, when the roads are sprinkled with reagents. To protect your pet’s paws before going out on the street they should be treated with vaseline or hygienic lipstick. If desired, you can get special shoes for dogs.
Care for the ears
Clean your ears as they become dirty. The algorithm of actions looks as follows:
- sit the husky in front of you;
- pull back the auricle;
- drip a special lotion into the ear canal;
- evenly distribute the solution with massaging movements;
- remove any remaining fluid from the ear canal with a cotton swab.
If necessary, the procedure can be repeated.
Eye care
If the dog is healthy, the presence of minor mucus in the eye area after sleep is considered normal. When dry, crusts appear in their place. You can clean the husky’s eyes with a special lotion and gauze napkins (cotton pads).
