So, you have a lovely Siberian husky puppy. It is likely that in the future you will want to participate with him at a dog show.
The Russian Kynological Federation (RKF) holds the largest exhibitions in our country and unites many owners of pedigreed dogs. RKF is the Union of public canine organizations, as well as the official representative of Russia in the International canine Federation (FCI). The organization has a common pedigree book. On its basis, the owners receive RKF pedigrees, which are documents for dogs.
Everyone can visit an exhibition and just watch. However, you can take part in such events only provided that you are an owner of purebred dogs with a RKF pedigree. However, keep in mind that one such document is not enough to win. Have you decided that you are ready and want to pursue a husky career? Take into account that then you need to be willing to invest time, money, and knowledge. For the last point, it’s better to contact experts in their field: groomer, zoopsychologist, handler. Dog shows are a kind of sport, so be ready that the road to victory will not be easy. If you are confident in your abilities and pet, then go forward to the goal.
Way to success
Siberian husky puppies have great potential. If you want to get high ratings from experts, start to train your pet the basics of exhibition display-stand, movements, demonstration of bite from the very childhood.
You can start training as soon as the little husky gets used to your home. Make short and varied trainings for your pet. You should be in a positive mood so that the exercises bring joy to the baby. Otherwise, the long-awaited exhibition will become a torment for both the owner and the dog.
Huskies are easy to motivate to train, as they adore food. Before training, prepare some treats for your pet. You can use dry food, boiled meat or dog crackers. Don’t forget that this is just a stimulation for the dog, so you need to treat the baby only in small portions. Food should be natural, so as not to cause allergies or stomach disorders. In addition, you can use your pet’s favorite toys to motivate it. However, it is preferable to still use a treat.
The first thing you need to teach the puppy to slip lead – exhibition leash, which is selected under the color of the animal. A slip lead should wear for a while so the dog will start to get used to the leash and will not try to escape from him. Train your huskies carefully, avoiding sudden movements. Periodically motivate with a treat.
Another useful tip: teach your dog different commands every lesson. For example:
- for the dog show stand, use the “stand” command;
- for showing teeth — “teeth” or “show”;
- for movement in the ring, teach the commands “ran”, “trot” or “run”;
- to change the tempo, use “faster” and “quieter”.
Make the first classes short – it’s enough to train your pet for 3-5 minutes. In the future, gradually increase this time. The most effective is to train your dog regularly.
