Huskies are a truly exotic breed. Its representatives look very similar to wolves, but they have a soft and kind disposition. Their exterior is admired, and their character is respected. Graceful dogs with colorful eyes are a real treasure for breeders. There is a belief that they bring good luck, happiness and well-being to the house.
Breed standard
Siberian huskies are very popular among dog breeders. They are valued for their colorful appearance, charisma and loyalty. A distinctive feature of this breed is the color of the eyes.
According to standards the husky allowed a variety of colors of the iris:
- brown;
- amber;
- blue;
- yellow-rich;
- black.
Most often representatives of this breed have blue, brown or black eyes. In this case, even two-color (heterochromic) irises are not considered a deviation.
Blue-eyed huskies
A dog with an icy look looks unusual and is a real rarity.
This color of the iris is not considered a defect and is officially permitted by breed standards.
The most common appearance of a husky is black-and-white or gray-and-white coat color, blue eyes with a dark rim. Pure white dogs with a blue iris are extremely rare. They are especially valued among dog breeders. It is believed that such dogs are the most friendly to humans. Communication with them always brings a lot of positive emotions.
Brown-eyed and black-eyed individuals
Huskies with dark eyes are common. Owners of brown eyes usually have a more intense color. In most cases, it is the predominant black, diluted with white inclusions.
Brown-eyed dogs can also have a bright red-amber hue. At the same time, their hair is often brown with wide stripes and white spots.
Owners of heterochromic eyes
Such dogs look very exotic and unusual. Dog breeders call them “Harlequins”. Representatives of the breed with heterochromic eyes, as well as their counterparts, take part in exhibitions and are allowed to breed.
There are several reasons for this color of the eyes:
Genetic predisposition. Congenital heterochromia is caused by a deficiency or excess of melanin in the animal’s organism. As a rule, such puppies are born from crossing dogs with blue and brown eyes.
Consequences of the disease or prolonged use of potent drugs. Any change in the color of the iris requires increased attention from the dog owner. To exclude the presence of pathology, you should contact a specialist.
Different eyes are allowed by breed standards. This distinctive feature is not a defect, does not affect the quality of vision and health of the animal. But if heterochromia is not congenital, but acquired, then it’s desirable to show husky to a doctor.
Albino eye color
Such individuals are considered a breed defect, because albinism is a genetic disease. They are naturally devoid of iris pigmentation and have light blue or even almost transparent eyes. Despite this, the dogs look amazing and attract a lot of attention.
