Interview with an expert: Daiva Rimaityte

RKF-FCI international expert

— Hello, Daiva! How do you assess the organization process and participants composition of this dog show?

– Good morning! A very beautiful place was chosen for holding the dog show. There is enough space to place rings, it is easy to find a place where you can find shade on a hot day. As I saw all dogs felt very comfortable at the exhibition. The dog show is not big but dogs were trained at good level. I also liked handling, there were calm owners and dogs who apparently enjoy showing themselves in the ring.

— Have you faced the situations today when it was difficult for you to choose a winner?

– I really liked dogs of breed Akita inu. It is necessary to give dogs an opportunity to show themselves. Husky is a very good class – a good temperament, moves and physique. I could have been staring for hours Husky running around the ring but unfortunately I had no time to do it. I congratulate the winners one more time and hope to see them again in my ring.

— Tell us about yourself, please. How long have you been participating in competitions as a judge? Are you a breeder? If so, what kind of breed is?

– My first dog show was held in Kaunas, 2006 and I still remember which dogs I had the honor to judge. Many years have passed since that day and now I am international FCI judge in IV V VII VIII groups. I also opened FCI IX and have the honor to judge handlers. Since 2002 I have had a very interesting breed – Czechoslovak Wolfdog. First puppies were born in Lithuania and Baltic region, 2006 in my kennel – Girios dvasia. There are ‘children’, ‘grandchild’ and ‘great grandchild’ of Wolfdog live in Russia. I am very happy with their results at dog shows and trainings.

— What attracts you to this breed?

– First time I saw Czechoslovak Wolfdog in 1996. I was amazed by its wolf eyes, big paws and a sly smile in the face. And when I began to share my life and house with them so I understood what interesting dogs they are – very smart and moderately impudent. It is very interesting to live with them.

— We are specialized in Siberian Husky. Could you say a few words about this breed? How number of participants has been changing for the last years – growing or decreasing?

– Recent years I have seen less Husky in the rings but it has a very good quality. When a big popularity grows in the breed, it’s never good. It is easy to destroy the breed for several years.

— How the breed has changed in Russia recent years? Maybe dogs from Russian kennels got some specific traits?

– I can’t speak about dogs I see and judge in Lithuania. The dogs have good type, correct angles, free moves, show beautifully a typical step.

— What features do you consider are the main during judging the breed Siberian Husky?

– Although Czechoslovak Wolfdog and Husky are two different breeds but sometimes they resemble some moments of a wolf. It is important for me the dog to feel free in the ring, move properly while hold typically a head and tail as well as put limbs in line. Husky is a dog which should work by feet and move easily over long distances. That’s why it is very important to show this breed in motion.
